On the shelf

I’m not sure that my mother has ever met a cookbook she didn’t like. At the bookstore she will thumb through several, find one with a really good recipe that she wants to buy, and then remind herself that she doesn’t need anymore. Her current collection has to be a couple hundred strong.

I tend to lean more toward online recipe sites, and have a few family favorites, but I enjoy cookbooks too. As a food writer, I’ve received them from time to time and I periodically get some as gifts. Some are real winners. Some aren’t.

I’m dedicating this page to all cookbook fans. Just send me an e-mail at cstollak@eagletribune.com and tell me about your new or favorite cookbooks and I’ll post them here. I’ll also add some of mine and any cookbook reviews I come across!

Newly received:

Classic Southern Desserts, from the editors of Southern Living:  You could almost predict you’d find scrumptious recipes for pecan or peach pie or key lime cupcakes in this cookbook, but it offers so much more. I’m looking forward to trying the S’more Puffs, built from Ritz crackers, the chocolate-key lime cupcake pies, the pineapple meringue pie, or the white chocolate rice pudding with dried cherry sauce. This book is ripe for summer delights!
