The weather forecast doesn’t promise a great weekend for a Fourth of July barbecue, but if you’re looking for inspiration to try something new, there are plenty of places to turn for burger inspiration.
News came this week that McDonald’s is now offering Angus burgers in three varieties — a deluxe burger with pickles and tomatoes, a mushroom swiss burger and a bacon and cheese burger.
If you want to grill, check out the July 3 issue of The Eagle-Tribune for our Lifestyles page, which is devoted to burger recipes, including a tempting fried onions and blue cheese recipe. We also offer some tips on making a better burger.
Last weekend’s episode of The Next Food Network Star also featured a segment on burgers. In celebration of Bobby Flay opening a new Bobby’s Burger Palace at Mohegan Sun this month, contestants were asked to create regional burgers representing different parts of the country. Michael impressed the judges with his Mulberry Street Burger, stuffed with mozzarella, topped with pancetta and served on garlic bread. Melissa also shined with a Burlington, Vt., burger made with Vermont cheddar.
Melissa finally found her groove in her presentations and her honey/chili skirt steak was enough to win over judges and soldiers aboard the USS Intrepid in the second challenge. She won the USA Weekend challenge and will be featured in this weekend’s issue, which can be found in the Sunday Eagle-Tribune.
