Craving chili? Get your fill on June 7 as the Lawrence Rotary Club hosts the second annual Heroes of Lawrence Chili Cook-off to honor the unsung heroes of the Merrimack Valley.
Nurses, ambulance personnel, police, firefighters, doctors, and other health care workers will be lauded for their devotion to duty and the community, from noon to 5 p.m. in Pemberton Park.
The Valley’s “heroes” will cook alongside the “chili-heads” of the International Chili Association for prizes. The locals will compete for the “People’s Choice” Award, while the ICS contestants compete for ICS prizes, a shot at qualifying for the World Champion of Traditional Red Chili, and a shot a $25,000 grand prize, if they win it.
The Lawrence Rotary Club will award hundreds of dollars in prize money to local and ICS favorites. Remaining proceeds will benefit the Rotary Foundation.
