He did it !!!!

Carrying an American flag and escorted by a police motorcade, John O’Connor finished his massive marathon challenge at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

“It was just amazing. The whole thing is so overwheming,” said O’Connor, finally resting after running four consecutive 26.2-mile marathons.

“I just can’t explain all the emotions running through my mind,” said an elated O’Connor.

He thanked everyone who supported him along the way, both physically at the race and on the Eagle-Tribune blog. His father, who couldn’t be there in person, was able to track him all day on the blog, he said.

Tonight, O’Connor said he plans to go home and fill his bathtub with ice.

“And soak in it for 12 minutes,” he said.

Then, he’s heading straight to bed for a well-deserved night’s sleep.

I met Jon 2 years ago running the Vermont 100 mile run. I have watched him train and accomplish this amazing feat for a cause he is passionate about. It was a thrill to see him returning to Hopkinton yesterday to start his last leg to Boston. He showed us all what sheer determination, hard work and support by family and friends can do for the soul! Rest up Jon, you have more miles to run!
