John O’Connor completed his first marathon and arrived in Hopkinton at 10:40 p.m. tonight.

“I was right on schedule,” he said.

The first leg of his 104-mile journey took him 5 hours and 10 minutes. He switched up his hydration pack and began running back toward Boston.

To help his body cope with the punishment, he took two Aleve and rubbed some Tiger Balm on his right calf. To keep his energy up, he has been eating oatmeal bars, cookies and a mix of sweet potatoe with extra salt and chicken, which is easy to digest.

Some friends have now joined O’Connor for the run, O’Connor said.
