Haverhill’s John O’Connor says he is “very much” ready to run four Boston Marathons – for a total of 104.8 miles. O’Connor is what’s known as an “ultrarunner,” somebody who can run longer than most of us care to drive. He is attempting this feat to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
While most people who plan to run tomorrow’s Boston marathon are probably resting right now, O’Connor is about to start running from the finish line in Bean Town, to the starting line in Hopkinton. He plans to start running at 5:30 p.m. He will run then run back to Boston, then back to Hopkinton to start the official marathon into Boston tomorrow morning with all the other racers.
But before he can run, he has to find a parking spot in Boston, and that’s what he’s doing now, he just told me during a quick phone interview.
O’Connor only slept for about six and a half hours last night. He went to bed at 2 a.m., hoping to sleep until 10 a.m. today.
“My dog didn’t agree with that,” he said.
The pooch woke him up at 7:30 a.m.
He managed to squeeze in a nap after that, and he feels fine with less than seven hours of sleep in him.
“That’s what I work off of all the time,” he said.
Stay with me tonight and tomorrow as I interview O’Connor periodically to track his progress. O’Connor is carrying his cell phone with him while he runs.
