I received a lot of emails, messages and even an angry phone call about my Top 10 Boston sports icons (athletes, coaches and builders).
There were a few themes involved in the messages I received:
1. Ted Williams should have been higher (1st, 2nd or 3rd instead of 4th).
My answer: I could be inclined to move him [...]

10 arguments for my Top 10 icons

I have a column in today’s Eagle-Tribune giving 10 reasons (I needed really one or two) why the Arizona Cardinals are in way over their heads in the upcoming Super Bowl in Tampa.
Well, I have another reason. The Cardinals were given an extra day to sell out their Wild Card weekend playoff tilt with the [...]
Some weekend thoughts while waiting for Jim Rice announcement

Here’s a column that ran in today’s Eagle-Tribune
It was another eventful weekend of sports, here and everywhere.
There was the annual college football playoff debate. There was the NFL draft debate. There was another disheartening Celtics loss. And there was another dominating Bruins win.
And lest we forget about our teams on vacation, the Red Sox and [...]
A spectacular effort by the Pats, just spectacular

One the best efforts by a New England team in the glory-laden Belichick era.
Awesome, awesome job.
Now to beg for some help.
Hector Longo out.
Be sure to read Bill Burt’s thoughts and Hector’s two-minute drill in the monday editions of The Eagle-Tribune.
Belichick pounds the beaten fighter with a quick kick to the two, a genius call if there was one.
This comes off the Bills throwing on fourth-and-one against the wind.
My eight-year-old is more qualified to coach an NFL team than Dick jauron.
All of Swampscott can hang its head in shame.
Drive of the year baby … Pats go up 10 … Time to put on that old Joe klecko jersey and start th chant!

J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!
Pats go up two scores in this one, the equivalent of a 12-0 lead in soccer.
Time to start rooting for the Mangenius, folks.

Bill Belichick is toying with his counterpart, how about the second successful fourth-down keeper by matt cassel?
Was any defense more unprepared the second time around than the bills?

Halftime grades … Pats surviving by a thread.

Offense
Line (B-) … Winning the battle, sort of. It’s not like the Pats are dominating here. Crucial early false start by Nick Kaczur.
Backs (B) … They’re running hard, not Freddie Jackson hard, but hard.
QB (A) … Terrific run by Cassel helps kill the 2nd quarter.
Receivers (Inc) … Wind makes it impossible to grade.Ben watson no [...]
All of New England has to be scratching its head right now, wondering how Stephen Gostkowski’s field goal try did not go through from 26 yards out.
Yikes.

Gritty run by Cassel … Playoffs are won and lost on plays like that …

Fourth and 5, great run, amazing run, by matt Cassel. as a friend said, I want a Matt Cassel Fathead, right now.
The kid’s got spunk.
Dear Fathead company, five words for you: Matt Cassel and Carlos Pena.
Thanks,
HL
