I have to note that the criticism of John Lackey will be “lacking” this week because the Red Sox starter has come through again.
I personally believe this is the best free agent signing by Theo Epstein and will be proven out when the Red Sox make the playoffs — not sure if it will be in 2010.
Lackey is in the prime of his career. While he didn’t get out to a great start (he was 4-3, 5.07 ERA through May 21) but has slowly gotten back to his dominant self.
Last night’s two-hitter though eight innings was Grade A. Lackey’s control bordered on special. True, the Seattle lineup is the weakest in baseball, but the signs are there that Lackey, now 10-5 with a 4.36 ERA, might turn out to be the best pitcher come September.
Fans forget that Lackey was brought here to win 15 to 18 games in regular season and WIN in October. I really like this guy.
