Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said something yesterday that made me scratch my head. He said, “[Rasheed Wallace] has to play better, bottom line. He has to play better defense — the offense will come — but he has to be a better defender. And we can’t wait for him. He has to be a better defender for us.”
I scratched my because I’m wondering what took Rivers, whom I believe is a great coach, so long to say the obvious.
If Rivers and Kevin Garnett said something like this four months ago maybe it could have been fixed. Maybe not.
Anyway, it’s too late to be criiticizing Wallace. He is a non-entity on both sides of the floor. And quite frankly, I don’t see it changing. You can’t make a guy get smart and get tough in one day.
