Rattling Joba’s cage

The Red Sox only scored one run in the inning, but how they did it is worth mentioning. It shows just how dangerous Boston is when Jacoby Ellsbury gets on base. After leading off the game with a single, he advanced to second on Joba Chamberlain’s balk.

Ellsbury is a pain. There’s no doubt about it. Anyway, after reaching second, Ellsbury attempted to steal third. As Ellsbury took off, Chamberlain’s pitch got past Jorge Posada. Ellsbury rounded third without hesitation and slid under Chamberlain (who was covering) at home.

Ellsbury is lightning. His average (.270 coming in) is improving slowly. The Red Sox need him to produce.
