I have a column in today’s Eagle-Tribune giving 10 reasons (I needed really one or two) why the Arizona Cardinals are in way over their heads in the upcoming Super Bowl in Tampa.
Well, I have another reason. The Cardinals were given an extra day to sell out their Wild Card weekend playoff tilt with the Atlanta Falcons in order that the game would be televised locally.
Well, they did finally sell 2,400 tickets over the final day (Friday, 2:30 p.m.).
Does that tell you what we’re in for or what?

  • Here is where you're wrong, Bill -

1 - Pittsburgh IS NOT that much better. Pittsburgh is a playoff implosion waiting to happen. The Steelers have long shown themselves vulnerable to good passing attacks and Mike Tomlin, between dismal time management and a lack of killer instinct, is like Bill Cowher in being able to throw away winnable playoff games.

    2 - The "didn't beat a good team" argument doesn't work anymore.

3 - The "TO factor" isn't relevent here.

4 - "The Steelers are tougher." They've always been "tougher" and have just one Superbowl (that they didn't even deserve) in the Cowher-Tomlin era to show for it.

5 - The "eyesight" factor isn't relevent here.

6 - Experience didn't help the Patriots in 2007's Superbowl, did it?

7 - Even with a winning record, Roethlisberger is a shaky playoff quarterback at least as prone to the meltdown as to the strong game. Kurt Warner, having nothing to lose, has shown more moxie and he's good at picking apart defenses like the Steelers play.

8 - Defense wins titles - and Arizona's defense has risen to the occassion against better quarterbacks than Roeth.

9 - The run is not how you win titles - it's won by the most efficient passing game.

    10 - It isn't a miracle beating a Steelers team that's a playoff implosion waiting to happen.

I will wager a DD coffee (I like mine --- medium blueberry, cream, with 1 equal). And you get the points.
I appreciate your vim and vigor (I write my best stuff when I POd). It was well done.
I believe the Cardinals are going to get clobbered. They don't realize what they're in for. The Steelers have too much history.
They aren't a great team by any stretch, but the Cards wouldn't have made the playoffs in the AFC. If they did, they would have been one-and-done
I haven't figured out a score, but I believe it will be in the 23-6 range, which is blowout for Steelers.
As for the things you said weren't relevant, I couldn't disagree more.
I will be doing a live chat the morning after the Super Bowl. When I figure out the time, I will post it and one of us can slam the other
    Take care.

One other thing ... I say Ben Roethlisberger wins MVP!

I know this is late, but hey, it happens.

The Steelers did win the Superbowl, but they blew a big lead, got it back because the Cards played prevent D, then the Cards whipped downfield quickly, but lost because Warner made the cardinal sin of holding onto the ball WAY too quickly.

I guess we were both right, Bill. The Steelers won, but the Cardinals made them sweat a lot.
