This is a legitimate question.
I know you want Mark Teixeira and his 35 HRs and 120 RBI for the next seven years in the cleanup spot, but …
I heard Red Sox manager Terry Francona allude to the fact that if the Red Sox are healthy next year, they have a championship contender. Hell, they might even be the best in baseball, considering Josh Beckett was a shell of himself.
That being said, is it worth the trouble of signing Teixeira and then dealing Mike Lowell away (he is the odd man out)?
Should the Red Sox go with what brung them and save their cash (remember, the economy stinks) for next year.
Maybe the focus this year should be to get a young catcher, develop him and rid the themselves of Julio Lugo.
Maybe that’s enough.
What do you think?

It comes down to what you project Lars to become. If you think that he can adjust his swing to cut down on his GB% and translate his raw power in to 30+ homeruns, then Teixiera isn’t a neccessary signing. If, however, he doesn’t get more lift on the ball he’s more likely to become John Olerud than Justin Morneau. Not that there’s anything wrong with Johnny O; he was a great ballplayer. But without Tex and with Ortiz entering his decline phase, that just isn’t enough of a middle-of-the-order prescence.

SIGN HIM!!!! Hate to say it….Big Papi is not so big anymore…without dreaded Manny. We will need Tex. Youk and Tex will be the new Papi and Manny combo.
