What a difference a week makes?
The New England Patriots look like bonafide contender. The Red Sox look like world champions.
This morning, the Patriots look like mincemeat and the Sox look even worse.
Red Sox: First you have to credit the other guys, the Tampa Bay Rays. They are getting paid, albeit a lot less, too. And Matt Garza has “ace” stuff. And while the Sox have given up nine runs in each of the last two games, what is most troubling is the offense. They were lucky to squeak out a run last night and scored only two in the opener. Is it too much to ask Tim Wakefield and Dice-K to save the season? Maybe.
Patriots: The Matt Cassell Debate will pick up steam once the Red Sox are done, but I would stick by him. His mistakes are correctable. He just needs time to relax. Remember, he has started four games in nine years. What are you expecting? Tom Brady? I’m not saying he’ll ever be in the Pro Bowl but I believe he is going to figure out that throwing the ball as far as you can when Randy Moss goes out for a pass is the right thing to do. Don’t under-throw him, ever.
What are your thoughts on the weekend.
I will have some pre-game stuff from Fenway Park tonight and will also have my NFL Power Rankings. I have some work to do there, obviously.
Let me know your thoughts.
I will leave you on this one: The Tampa Bay Rays are not going to hand this over to the Red Sox. The Red Sox had better play very well over the next three, four or five days if there is any more champagne showers.
