Sox-Rays 3: Pena steal indicative of game
Oct 13th, 2008 by Bill Burt
You want to know the play that best exemplifies the Sox-Rays game thus far (The Rays lead 5-0 in the fifth inning)?
After Carlos Pena bunted successfully against the shift — he put it toward third and Kevin Youkilis was basically playing shortstop — and then B.J. Upton was thrown out by Youkilis at second base after feigning the throw to first, Pena stole second off Jon Lester.
And Varitek didn’t even throw it.
The Sox were napping, including Lester, who looked over there but apparently didn’t see anything.
