While Nostradamus rests, a few top-of-the-first observations
Oct 5th, 2008 by Bill Burt
While my esteemed colleague, Hector Longo goes outside for some fresh air after his blogging during the Pats-49ers game, here are a few first inning thoughts:
Josh Beckett was not himself. We talk about Dice-K’s nibbling. Well, Beckett trumped him in the top of the first.
– First of all, the inning would’ve ended if he covered first on that “single” to Dustin Pedroia. But Beckett got their too late.
– Did you notice the three trips, alone, to the mound by Jason Varitek?
– Beckett seemed to over-throwing his fastball and was too cute with the curve.
– The 30 pitches he threw all but means he is not going to pitch more than five innings.
– The Angels came to play tonight. The first pitch hit by Chone Figgins showed that.
– I believe we are in for a great game tonight. The Red Sox will have to earn this one.
– Oh yes, I have one beef with a Longo comment in his post-game report card. He forgot to rail against Rodney Harrison, who also tried to catch that fourth-down pass from J.T. Sullivan, only to have it bounce out of his hands to O’Neal. Just an observation from the Red Sox press box TV.
