I have a column in today’s Eagle-Tribune laying into Jonathan Papelbon for his ill-advised, in my opinion, comments about wanting to close the All-Star game in lieu of Mariano Rivera.

Again, I am warming on this notion, which is probably crazy.
But the game really means something. The players really care. So do the managers, as we saw from Terry Francona’s celebration when the run scored at 1:50 a.m.
Maybe it could be tweaked so as to add a few more pitchers, probably starters, who could go three or four innings if need be in extra innings.
All I know is last night’s game was fun to watch.

They could have done it. But quite honestly, they didn’t deserve to sweep the New York Yankees this weekend.
The Yankees are in a similar situation. They are not playing good baseball. But that’s a discussion for another day.
What problems do you have with the Red Sox, as constituted?

We will find out this weekend, with four games in the Bronx, if Manny Ramirez’s pathetic incident with traveling secretary Jack McCormick (he knocked him down in the Red Sox dugout before Saturday’s game in Houston) was a mountain or a molehill.
Thus far, it appears to be Mount Everest.
The Sox have lost five straight since, with the bullpen getting a yoeman’s share of the blame, but something doesn’t appear right, beyond the injuries.
