Correction: Bay will never be the slugger Manny *was*. Bay already is the slugger that Manny currently is.

And, seriously? It's Terry and Theo's fault that Manny acts like a petulant child? Sox management has bent over backwards to make Manny's life as comfortable and easy as possible. That's on top of the fact that he's being paid twenty million dollars a year to do his job. In any other profession, a person that flat out refuses to do the job for which they're being paid would be fired and would no longer be receiving pay. I love Manny, and I wish him well in LA. But the idea that this is anybodys fault, other than Manny's, is absolutely ludicrous.

Manny's bat is a huge loss and it will affect the way teams pitch to Ortiz and others in the line-up. Bay will never be the slugger Manny is and the Sox got far too little for a sure-thing Hall of Famer in this deal. I blame Francona, Varitek and Theo for not being able to manage Manny's flair-ups better and letting things get far too out of hand. And ,as usual, the Boston sports media continues to make Boston one of the least desirable places to play in terms of pressure. They incited Manny and then blew things way of proportion.

Sure Manny's a selfish idiot and I realize his conduct has often been awful, but had Red Sox management handled him better he's still be in the line-up for us now.

The change in park factors equals out the change in leagues. ZiPS is projecting a .279/.374/.519 line from Bay over the rest of the season and a .279/.390/.526 line from Manny. So a slight downgrade offesnsively that will be more than made up for by the superior run prevention.
Manny is essentially tied with Dunn and Ibanez for being the worst left fielder in baseball. Last year, MGL's UZR had Bay at +4 runs in left. Manny is currently at -21 runs this year, and there are still 2 months left to the season. When you're that bad defensively you need one hell of a bat to make up for, and Manny just doesn't have that bat anymore. He's still a great hitter, but no longer is he virtually irreplaceable.

Jason Bay is hitting 4th in the National League. We always say the NL is weaker except when it favors the Red Sox. Manny is not that bad in Left. He's not the best left fielder but he's not the worst either.
I don't like the Manny attitude, but missing his bat will hurt the Red Sox.

I think the whole attitude of the team will change dramatically. I also think bay would be comfortable in the Four spot. He has never had so many good bats in front of or behind him. This could work out better than anticipated

Jason Bay hits 4th. His bat is just as potent as Manny's, and he's actually an overall improvement as he doesn't give back any runs in the field like Manny does.
