Red Sox rumor: Masterson may pitch on Tuesday
May 30th, 2008 by Bill Burt
It appears the Red Sox injuries at pitcher will get rookie Justin Masterson another start at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
According to a source he is awaiting official word from the Red Sox.
In two major league starts Masterson is 1-0 over 12-innings with 9Ks and a 1.46 ERA. He has allowed only two runs.
In Masterson’s first AAA performance last night. Here is the report from the Pawtucket Red Sox Website (www.pawsox.com):
Justin Masterson worked six innings on Thursday night, winning his Triple-A debut, leading Pawtucket past Scranton 5-2. With the win, Pawtucket moves to within one game of the first place Yanks. Masterson surrendered one earned run while fanning 4.
Jeff Bailey (he played for the Red Sox tonight, striking out in as a pinch hitter in Baltimore) hit a pair of home runs (15 & 16), the fourth time this month he’s hit 2 in a game. Chris Carter hammered his eighth, all in the month of May.
The PawSox saw solid relief from Hunter Jones and Chris Smith. Smith earned his 5th save in as many tries. At 33-21, the PawSox head south for an 8 game swing through Durham and Charlotte. Game one is set for Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
Clay Buchholz (0-0) continues his M.L. rehab against Chris Mason.
