Give the Celtics credit. They are playing their best basketball when it counts the most.
The fact that they held the Pistons to 81 points, in Detroit, says it all.
The Celtics were fantastic last night. Even though they fell behind, 70-60, you sort of knew it wasn’t over over yet. Well, the Celtics outscored the Pistons 29-11 the rest of the way.
Who were tonight’s heros?:
Paul Pierce: In the second half he was the go-to guy. He finished with 27 points. If he hit his free throws at the end, my 30 point prediction would have looked prophetic. Pierce is the best at taking nothing and creating an easy two points.
Ray Allen: He is back. While he had a quiet second half, his 13 points in the first half was the inspiration. He is aggressively going after his offense, something we hadn’t seen in a month.
James Posey: Is he the most underrated Celtic of them all? His steal from Tayshaun Prince with 1:39 remaining and the C’s leading 83-79 was the play of the game. He got the ball to Rajon Rondo and then Pierce, who was fouled. The Pistons were dead mentally after that play. Posey only scored three points in 20 minutes, but he was among the MVPs last night.
Kendrick Perkins: He only scored seven points, but upon further review the guys he covered a lot, Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess combined to score 10 points. Perkins was on the floor for an amazing 41 minutes.
Team defense: The Pistons scored 13 points in the fourth quarter after 31 in the third stanza. Wow.
