Law open to replace Asante at left cornerback
Mar 3rd, 2008 by Bill Burt
I have column in Monday sports pages saying the Patriots have an option to replace Asante Samuel and Ty Law is it. Maybe he is 80 percent of Samuel, but it’s a seamless move.
I spoke to Law in depth this weekend and he said everything but “give me the contract.”
This could happen soon. Law would cost about $3 million to $4 million for two seasons. It’s a bargain considering Samuel’s demands.
Do you agree?

I would make this move today. I believe Asante Samuel is good, not great, and a product of Belichick’s system.
Ty Law is a Hall of Famer with maybe two years left, at worst one. I say for for it. -

We go through this every year. How will the team live without this or that person being cut or go to FA’s. Bill and Scott just know how to re-tool every year. Since Law knows the system and only has been away for a short time. It would be a good fit. I think Law could help Merriweather along the way.

Damn, I need my football fix - I watched the Desperados undress the Georgia Force last Saturday (that Georgia INT in the endzone made Clint Dolezel look like Tony Romo and is what Asante should have done in that interconference playoff game!) and the NE Surge start their season on the road this Saturday, I gotta tune into the radio for that one (BTW Bill, can you do a piece on the Surge’s Tyler Grogan?)
I think Ty Law will be back with the Patriots - there’s no reason for him not to be here.
BTW, it appears the Patriots and Moss will get a multiyear deal done soon.

Law and the Pats would be a great fit. Basically because he isn’t a bad player and he knwos the system. The Pats should get this done soon.
