Cassell will be with Celtics for game with Pistons
Mar 3rd, 2008 by Bill Burt
Two sources just confirmed the Boston Celtics will be adding Sam Cassell after he is expected to clear waivers tonight.
The Celtics are planning to immediately add Cassell, 38, to the roster in preparation of the Celtics game with the Pistons on Wednesday night at the Garden. Cassell will give the Celtics much needed firepower at the point guard position, with Rajon Rondo the team’s only true point guard.
Cassell’s agent was quoted by the Boston Globe, saying the Celtics were his client’s top choice after talking to several interested teams.
Cassell has averaged 12.8 points and 4.7 assists with the Los Angeles Clippers. He has two championship rings to his credit, both while playing for the Houston Rockets as a rookie and second-year guard. He only averaged 6.7 and 9.5 points over those two seasons.
While Rondo is playing his best basketball of his short career, Cassell gives the team depth at the position, especially when Rondo is resting. Eddie House, a shooting guard, has handled the backup duties thus far.

I am happy. This is a position the Celtics needed to fill and now they will play a lot better against the Pistons.
