Yes, this is a loaded question.
Yes, expectations for J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo are bigger than they were a year ago. At least that’s my opinion.
Both were whipping boys for their lack-luster performances at the plate. Lugo hit only .237 and walked only 48 times while Drew knocked in only 64 runs (9 fewer than [...]

This is up for debate. I’ve heard everything from, “He’s a potential ace” to a “He’s over-rated.”
Well, we will get some answers and we will probably get them very quickly as Daisuke Matsuzaka is thrown in the first immediately.
With Josh Beckett still on the mend, though he will pitch on April 4 in Toronto, which [...]

While it has been a topic of discussion on the airwaves the last few days, I got confirmation today that the Patriots have “zero” interest in acquiring Adam “Pacman” Jones, the troubled cornerback of the Tennessee Titans who was suspended for the 2007 season.
Apparently rumors were circulated that the Patriots contacted Jones’ agent.
Not true. It [...]

I thought this was a no-brainer. In fact, I thought this back in September of 2007. But after the mail I got, mostly negative, when I inferred the Coco Crisp doesn’t have the makeup for playing in Boston, I wonder if I am going overboard on Jacoby Ellsbury. The Red Sox are tough. They really are. They were lucky to survive a horrendous start from Dice-K, who was a mess with his control. But they did just that. They survived.
Then the bats got going with Manny Ramirez leading both surges in [...]

They are loaded. The Boston Red Sox are the team to beat.
We all know the reasons — youth, experience, power, speed, defense and, of course, pitching.
But there is the hangover, which is inevitable in pro sports in the 21st century. It takes a lot of energy to win a championship, as well as keeping away [...]

The Boston Red Sox are on a roll. And they haven’t played a game yet.
You have to give the players credit, standing up for their coaches, who were not going to be paid an extra stipend for their exhaustive trip to Japan.
The threat to not go to Japan, was just that, a threat. But Major [...]

The Houston game, a convincing 94-74 win, didn’t matter.
But I have to admit, it had a sort exclamation point to it.
The Celtics have proven their mettle time and again this season. The win over the Spurs was special. The win over the Rockets — this did not look like a great team — was impressive.
The [...]
