The Eagle has landed … Samuel signs with Philadelphia
Feb 29th, 2008 by Bill Burt
Asante Samuel is officially a Philadelphia Eagle. He agreed to a deal while visiting the Eagles facility this afternoon.
As expected it will average out to $10 million per season and about $30 million is guaranteed. There are other incentives included (interceptions) that could add about $7 million more in bonuses over the first three years.
The contract is six years overall covering just over $60 million.
What does this mean for the Patriots, who offered Samuel less per year (about $8 million) and less guaranteed (closer to $20 million)
They need a starting cornerback on the left side.
The name Ty Law comes up as he was in town last week. He was supposed to be released today but the Chiefs PR department said that hadn’t officially happened yet.
We will have more on Law on Sunday.
As for Samuel, nobody can complain. He wanted big money and he got it. He did what many, many millions of others would have done.
Is it a smart move? I’m not so sure. Contending for championships and the remote chance for induction into the Hall of Fame probably would have come easier with the Patriots.
Good luck to him. He was a very good player. I’m not sure he was great, other than this season or last, but he will be tough to replace.

Im not so sure millions of people would take 10m to play for the Eagles over 8.5m to play for the Patriots. Im so happy for A$ante that he will be able to feed his kids now. With the extra 1.5m he can buy a really nice set of clubs to play lots of January golf for the next few years because he wont be playing football.
It seems to me the pats should be billions of dollars under the cap because they are letting everyone walk…didnt forget about tedi..but come on. SIGN FREAKIN MOSS!! -
