Asante Samuel is officially a Philadelphia Eagle. He agreed to a deal while visiting the Eagles facility this afternoon.
As expected it will average out to $10 million per season and about $30 million is guaranteed. There are other incentives included (interceptions) that could add about $7 million more in bonuses over the first three years.
The contract is six years overall covering just over $60 million.
What does this mean for the Patriots, who offered Samuel less per year (about $8 million) and less guaranteed (closer to $20 million)
They need a starting cornerback on the left side.
The name Ty Law comes up as he was in town last week. He was supposed to be released today but the Chiefs PR department said that hadn’t officially happened yet.
We will have more on Law on Sunday.
As for Samuel, nobody can complain. He wanted big money and he got it. He did what many, many millions of others would have done.
Is it a smart move? I’m not so sure. Contending for championships and the remote chance for induction into the Hall of Fame probably would have come easier with the Patriots.
Good luck to him. He was a very good player. I’m not sure he was great, other than this season or last, but he will be tough to replace.

Im not so sure millions of people would take 10m to play for the Eagles over 8.5m to play for the Patriots. Im so happy for A$ante that he will be able to feed his kids now. With the extra 1.5m he can buy a really nice set of clubs to play lots of January golf for the next few years because he wont be playing football.
It seems to me the pats should be billions of dollars under the cap because they are letting everyone walk...didnt forget about tedi..but come on. SIGN FREAKIN MOSS!!

Don't be so hard. I will be busy this week, I promise.
    On Randy Moss:
    1. Patriots will not overpay for him, which means $9 million per year over three years. My guess is Pats will play him very well for two years, maybe $8 million per. But remember, Brady is the highest paid player at about $10 million, which is a discount considering his talent.
The Patriots need Moss. But remember Moss needs the Patriots if he wants to win. My guess is they agree to a deal this week. But that's a guess.
    2. The Cowboys talk is ridiculous. If Moss really would consider going there, well, then he should. He and T.O. could not exist together. With T.O. it is catches first and winning second.
    3. Remember, there is risk here with Moss as we saw with his ex-girlfriend. The Patriots would want an out-clause if he did something stupid.
    4. Patriots, I believe, are still figuring their future path, including the draft. The defense needs to improve and that's where the focus will be.
    5. If Tom Brady wants Moss, and I believe he does. Moss will be back. He wields that much power.

Best to you and family on west coast.

You remember the issue with his ex-girl friend? They

You were right on with the Moss deal. Im a happy camper now. I do remember that about his girl and im sure they wanted to look into that further. West coast is nice. I saw the Celts/Clippers the other day and will be seeing Sox/Dodgers this month at the colliseum. Making your way out soon?
Wasnt trying to be too hard on you, just needed my fix.
    Thanks
