I believe there were many reasons why he didn’t go. Here are the first 10 that come to my mind:
1. If Theo’s not going, neither was he.
Personally, I agree with this one.
2. He wanted to get in more hitting.
Would fans complain if this were really true?
3. It wasn’t mandatory. It would have been really big news if it was mandatory.
4. President said his best jokes were with him staying home.
Very honorable of him, if this was the reason.
5. His sick grandmother needed his full attention.
If this were really true, President Bush would have some apologizing to do.
6. He thinks Associated Press’ Helen Thomas has always been biased against President Bush and he couldn’t take seeing her.
I might agree with him on this one.
7. If ex-Yankee Enrique Wilson isn’t going, neither is he.
Remember Manny was too sick to play but not sick enough to visit … OK, so it’s not that funny.
8. He might have to answer tough questions as to why he didn’t attend in 2005.
Probably a reach, but he would have been asked.
9. He’s upset the way President Bush’s Republican brethren grilled Brian McNamee and let Clemens off the hook.
I still don’t understand the democrat-republican splite during the Clemens-McNamee debacle.
10. Because he didn’t want to.
Basically, it’s Manny being Manny. I’ll accept this one.
My point is, it doesn’t matter.
Is anyone out there really put out by Manny not going to D.C.?
Or, do you agree, that it doesn’t matter one iota?
