Super Bowl: Pre-third quarter thoughts
Feb 3rd, 2008 by Bill Burt
Final thoughts as the third quarter kickoff approaches:
What are you thinking in the locker-room right now if you’re a player on either team?
If I’m a Giant, I say we played a perfect defensive half and we’re two costly turnovers from the lead. But I’m also questioning things. How long can we stop the Patriots? Is my quarterback, Eli Manning, ever going to wake the heck up and make a play for me? And what happens if the Pats take the opening drive and go right down the field to take a two-score lead, because then we’re cooked?
If I’m a Patriot, I’m thinking, OK, we were atrocious on offense and did our jobs on defense. Now let’s figure out how to block these guys and let’s win a championship.
Am I questioning myself? Sure.
This is, right now, the biggest halftime of Bill Belichick’s coaching life. Ditto for offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
If Patriots score a touchdown on the first drive, the chances are they will put the game away. This will be an interesting quarter of football.
