It’s funny. Last summer when then-Detroit Tiger Sean Casey was in Lawrence visiting his friend Fr. Paul O’Brien at the St. Patrick’s sponsored food pantry, the Cor Unum Meal Center on Salem Street.
Fr. O’Brien not only performed Casey’s marriage, but he has baptized Casey’s three children.
Anyway, I asked Casey about coming to the Red Sox some day. The Sox had apparently put out feelers two years earlier when Casey was with the Reds.
“I love Boston, are you kidding me?” said Casey. “This is my kind of place. To be honest, I really like my situation in Detroit. But some day? Who knows. You’d probably see me a lot more in Lawrence.”
Casey is noted as one of the nicest players in all of baseball. He will obviously be a role player as a pinch-hitter and/or first baseman when Kevin Youkilis needs a break or leaves the game.
He signed a one-year deal for $750,000 with the Red Sox.
But we should expect to see him around the Lawrence area, which won’t be a bad thing.
