· Become the second team in the NFL’s 88-year history to achieve an undefeated and untied record throughout the regular season and playoffs, joining the 1972 Miami Dolphins (17-0).
· Set the all-time NFL record for most overall victories in a season (19), topping the 18 total wins by the 1984 San Francisco 49ers and the 1985 Chicago Bears (18).

If you’re a Giants fan … perfect.
The Giants game plan is evident, just run the clock, run the football and try to keep it close. For my money, that’s a loser’s mentality, as the last group of Pats’ opponents has seen.
They’re trying to lose with dignity. To beat a goliath like New England, you have to take chances.

Opening quarter thoughts:
The Randall Gay arm injury, suffered on the opening Giants drive had to cause a lump in Bill Belichick’s throat. The Pats have endured some brutal secondary injury problems in Super Bowls. The coach has to be praying it doesn’t happen again.
Laurence Maroney looks fresh and ready to run.
Randy Moss has been open on at least three different plays deep and Tom Brady hasn’t even looked his way.

Troy Brown was among seven Patriots on the inactive list.
The 15-year receiver, who has probably played his final game (vs. Jacksonville in AFC Divisional), is expected to hang up his cleats.
The fact that he’s inactive is no surprise.
He played in only one game against the Dolphins, the Patriots 15th win of the season. He was active for another but never played.
We will have more on that after the game.
