Here was a rundown of what happened on Day 1, in no particular order:
1. Tom Brady practiced … gingerly.
2. The Giants arrived and have decided to stop inciting the Patriots with bulletin board material. This though may only last a day. Stay tuned.
3. Patriots linebacker Junior Seau and his ring-less career continues to be the darling of the national media, which has been the case the last month.

Word had circulated around the media room this morning that Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan’s son had died in Afghanistan.
I don’t have any details, just that it happened. There were a lot of reporters stunned by the news.
It would a nice if you could keep Bob and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I’m here. I’m at the convention center, which is just across the street from our hotel.
It is starting to feel like a Super Bowl.
From estimates in the media credentials center more than 80 percent have already checked in by noon today.
In case you are wondering, the media needs to be here because our access to the teams peaks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. After that, you are in trouble if you haven’t researched or talked … continued »

I am currently waiting to get on our plane for Houston via Phoenix (20 minute delay). It’s not nice out, but it did just stop snowing.
Anyway, I will send a quick blog from our hotel — Wyndham — in downtown Phoenix.
Make sure you check the blog out throughout the week. I will have my keyboard with me almost everywhere.
If you have any tips for travel in the Phoenix/Scotsdale area, I’m all ears.

Cost of Super Bowl Rings
The NFL pays for up to 150 rings at $5,000 per ring (plus adjustments for increases in gold and diamonds).
You probably didn’t know this, because I didn’t either, but the NFL also pays for 150 pieces of jewelry for the losing team which may not cost more than one-half the price set for the Super Bowl ring.
