Pats-Jags pregame 2 … Where is Eugene?
Jan 12th, 2008 by Bill Burt
It is not the best of times for soon-to-be free agent, Patriots safety Eugene Wilson.
He was listed as inactive while not on the most recent injury report, which means one thing: Coaches decision.
Wow.
Wilson was the starting safety on the Super Bowl in 2004, after he was drafted as a cornerback out of Illinois.
Obviously, he has moved behind James Sanders in the depth chart, but this is a shocker. As for the reason, one can only guess. He was the guy who got burnt in the end zone, after slipping before Plaxico Burress caught an easy pass for a score to close the gap to 38-35.
Extra kicks: Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski looked very good kicking with only a tee toward the closed end portion of the stadium, going 1-for-2 from 53 yards out (he kicked from each hash mark).
That was in preparation for his long-snapper, Lonnie Paxton, and holder Chris Hanson, who then aided his warmups. He made all nine kicks from inside of 43 yards toward the closed end of the stadium, before switching sides. Then he made seven consecutive kicks, including his last from 52 yards.

Hey bill,
Remember when Eugene Wilson was that hard hitting DB a few years ago? what happened to him? Who do we want to see next week for the chance to go to the SB? If its Indy that will be the SB. I am worried about our pass defense against Peyton. I think we have a much better chance of going to AZ. if we play SD. As much as i want to see the best game (IND) I would rather play the bolts.Someone tell me our defense will get better! -

Yeah, Gostkowski looked good until the game started. I’m betting that the coaches bring in a few other kickers to look at this offseason, you can’t be missing a 35-yarder in the playoffs!
