Pats-Dolphins pregame: Troy Brown is playing!!!!!!!
Dec 23rd, 2007 by Bill Burt
It’s official. Troy Brown will be playing for the first time in today’s Pats-Dolphins game which begins about 40 minutes from now.
The Patriots wide receiver is listed as the third string wideout behind Wes Welker, the starter, and Donte Stallworth.
What does that mean?
Well, the Patriots are one touchdown reception away from breaking an NFL record with 22 players scoring touchdowns. Well, don’t be shocked if Brown gets some serious time near the end zone.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is at the tight end position with both Ben Watson and Kyle Brady out with injuries. Who is the starting tight end today? Stephen Spach.
Who is Spach? That’s a good question.
Spach played at Fresno State, of course, with James Sanders and Logan Mankins. He graduated in 2005.
Here is his bio from Fresno State:
Fresno State: Entered school as a walk-on but performed well as a freshman and earned a scholarship … perhaps the team’s best blocking tight end … is especially a candidate to catch passes near the goal line … owns good hands and is a dependable route runner. (2003) Competed in 12 games, starting seven … made 13 catches for 127 yards, good for a 9.8 average … started the year with six receptions for 69 yards in his first three games combined against the likes of Tennessee, Oregon State and Oklahoma … an Academic All-WAC honoree. (2002) Played in all 14 games, starting eight … had 11 receptions for 77 yards and three TDs … is very effective inside the 10-yard line … was effective in the Silicon Valley Football Classic, catching three passes for 22 yards … also had a solid performance against Tulsa, against which he had two receptions for 18 yards and a score … member of the Dean’s List … an Academic All-WAC selection. (2001) Played in 13 games, starting one … was a reliable tight end and showed signs of his future promise … caught eight passes for 97 yards and one touchdown … caught three passes for 39 yards against Louisiana Tech … his touchdown reception came against Colorado State. (2000) Redshirted.
High School: Lettered in both football and basketball at Clovis High … helped lead CHS to a 12-1 record in 2000 … was coached at Clovis High by current Fresno State receivers coach Tim Simons.
Personal: Born July 18, 1982 … parents names are Patricia and George Spach … is the eighth of 11 children … has six brothers, David, Geoff, Danny, Kevin, Andrew and Matthew, and four sisters, Karena, Kirstin, Linnea and Audrey … enjoys drawing and pickup basketball … favorite athlete is Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon … brother Geoff played football for Fresno State in 1992-93.

Huzzah!
Glad Troy got on the field at home, was fantastic to see him… even if he did let the ball bounce off his facemask.
They better retire #80 when he stops playing, he deserves it.
