Patriots coach Bill Belichick was one of the two hundred fans at the Brooks-Rivers football game in North Andover on Saturday.
His son Brian is a sophomore and backup quarterback at Rivers, the same school his older brother Steven (now at Rutgers) attended.
Belichick was great with the fans on hand, particularly on the Rivers side. He was introduced to several Brooks fans, as well, and he was more than cordial.
One funny thing was his hat. It … continued »

I wrote a story on Don Shula’s ridiculous rant about Bill Belichick, making him look like a crabby old man rather than the legendary coach he was.
It will be the Friday Eagle-Tribune. Anyway, one person I contacted for that story, but couldn’t work him in because of space restrictions, was a former linebacker from the 1972 Patriots, Ed Weisacosky.
I called Ed after going through the Pats ‘72 roster and realizing the Dolphins, Shula’s Dolphins, … continued »

I have come to realize that Jacoby Ellsbury is off-limits. I apologize for making even an insinuation.
I can honestly say I agree, I think.
But Johan Santana is a great pitcher. And if you get him now, before he is on the open market, you not only lock down one of the game’s great pitchers, but you keep him away from the David (the New York Yankees … in case you were wondering, the Sox are … continued »

Cat got your tongue?
It’s got mine.
I’m even wondering if this would be enough, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz, for Johan Santana. I heard somebody else threw in Jon Lester to the mix. That would be too much in my mind.
But anyway, Santana is one of the best lefties in the game (maybe Lester would make sense instead of Buchholz) with a 70-32 record over his last four seasons, including records of 20-6 (’04), 16-7 (’05), … continued »

The Red Sox have made it official. They will have Curt Schilling in the pitching rotation for at least one more season.
An ESPN.com story said Schilling’s contract is $8 million with incentives that could bring it near $10 million. I have not confirmed that part of today’s news.
A source with the Red Sox confirmed that “It appears there is an agreement.”
Remember, Schilling asked for $13 million back in March, only to have Theo Epstein say … continued »

Just when you thought the Patriots couldn’t surprise you, well, they did.
While it was their closest game of 2007, and they made as many mistakes today (2 ints. by Brady equalled his season-long total and a franchise record 145 yards in penalties) than they had the previous eight games combined, it was their best win.
A loss here and well, the rest of the season would have been interesting. The Mike Tyson thing they have going … continued »
