Belichick nuggets at Brooks School
Nov 11th, 2007 by Bill Burt
Patriots coach Bill Belichick was one of the two hundred fans at the Brooks-Rivers football game in North Andover on Saturday.
His son Brian is a sophomore and backup quarterback at Rivers, the same school his older brother Steven (now at Rutgers) attended.
Belichick was great with the fans on hand, particularly on the Rivers side. He was introduced to several Brooks fans, as well, and he was more than cordial.
One funny thing was his hat. It was one of those ski hats you’d see on a 13-year-old kid, with pieces of red, white and blue fabric sticking out.
He of course wore a gray sweatshirt — this one said “Rivers football” — among other things trying to keep warm.
I was able to pull him aside after the game to talk about a few topics, particularly Randy Moss, Tom Brady and the controversies following him and this team. It will be in The Eagle-Tribune tomorrow (Monday).
For a guy in the midst of one of the greatest runs in pro sports, he was as calm as could be.
One funny anecdote came from his son, Steve, who called from New Jersey. He wanted his dad to get tickets to the Celts-Nets game on Saturday night for him and his three college buddies. Of course, dad came through.
Belichick also received updates, via text messages, from a Phillips Andover alum who was at the Exeter-Andover game in Exeter, N.H.
“It looks like we’re going to win this one,” said Belichick, who spent a post-graduate year at Phillips Andover, after getting a score in the second half.
