I have come to realize that Jacoby Ellsbury is off-limits. I apologize for making even an insinuation.
I can honestly say I agree, I think.
But Johan Santana is a great pitcher. And if you get him now, before he is on the open market, you not only lock down one of the game’s great pitchers, but you keep him away from the David (the New York Yankees … in case you were wondering, the Sox are now Goliath!).
Trust me, if Santana is a free agent, he is going to the Yankees in 2009 and immediately becomes their ace.
That being said, I like the loyalty to Ellsbury.
Anyway, how about this for a trade …. Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester for Santana?
Let me know what you think.
On another note, I elaborated a little more on Schilling’s new contract and return. Check it out at www.eagletribune.com. I’m having a linkage problem on this blog which I will get fixed.
