Cat got your tongue?
It’s got mine.
I’m even wondering if this would be enough, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz, for Johan Santana. I heard somebody else threw in Jon Lester to the mix. That would be too much in my mind.
But anyway, Santana is one of the best lefties in the game (maybe Lester would make sense instead of Buchholz) with a 70-32 record over his last four seasons, including records of 20-6 (’04), 16-7 (’05), 19-6 (’06), 15-13 (’07) over his last four seasons.
Imagine this rotation: Beckett, Santana, Dice-K, Buchholz and Schilling.
What about Ellsbury? That is a future star in the making, right? He’s a leadoff guy who will probably never knock in more than 70 runs in a season, but there is something special about him.
But, on the otherhand, bringing on Santana (and of course signing him to a six-year deal), you basically are competing for a World Series every year, despite the love affair with Ellsbury.
What do you think?
Honestly, I don’t know just yet.
I believe with the Schilling deal, one of the kids (Lester or Buchholz) might be trade bait for Santana, or even Marlins hot-shot third baseman Miguel Cabrera (more on him at a later date).
