Here is Terry Francona’s response to the question about if he considered replacing Tim Wakefield with Josh Beckett for tonight’s game:
“I can’t believe somebody asked me that,” said Francona. “Yeah, I think what we considered was trying to put our ballclub in the best position to win the series, and there’s a lot of different [...]

I arrived here about an hour ago, at 4:30 p.m., and the early story is the weather. It has been overcast the entire day. A few sportswriters made the 60-mile trek to Canton, Ohio, to the Pro Football Hall of Fame (more on that later). It was dry the entire trip until we got back [...]

Here are a few observations from last night’s Game 3:
1. Even though the game was close, it felt like a blowout. Sox hitters were behind on the count almost all night. It made a 4-0 and 4-2 lead appear insurmountable, which it isn’t.
2. Just like the Red Sox do in Boston, the Indians play off [...]

This is my first visit to Jacobs Field. Wow.
It reminds me of Camden Yards in Baltimore with the backdrop of the some mini-skyscrapers.
Very clean. Very spacious. And very big.
I remember when the Red Sox brass of the Harrington Era stating that 65 Mack Trucks could ride inside the premises compared to half of one at [...]

Live from Cleveland

I arrived here at about 11:30 a.m.
My trek here … knock on wood … was a pleasure. I flew out of Manchester Airport where there was no traffic, no lines and no hassles.
I ran into Boston Globie Jackie MacMullen, who was on the same flight.
I will be heading over to the park at about 4 [...]

Another chilly night for baseball. But as I rubbed my hands while sitting in the Red Sox dugout before tonight’s second game, I was reminded by Jacoby Ellsbury about something.

It was the calm before the storm here on Thursday, especially on the Red Sox end, as they ran through a typical pregame batting and fielding drills.
The only “baseball” story was Dice-K’s simulated game. I stayed for three innings and, to be honest, he was less than stellar.
Eric Hinske had two hard hits off him. [...]

Was it Dice-K’s disappointment — 4 2/3 innings, 3 runs, 7 hits, 3 BBs — in Game 2 against the Angels on Friday night? Or was it Schilling’s great performance — 7 innings, 0 runs, 6 H, 0 BBs — on Sunday?
How about all of the above.
Schilling was named the Game 2 starter of the [...]

Francona stops rolling Dice,
and other playoff observations
Dice-K didn’t cometh. J.D. Drew finally came through, at least one time. And the managers, Terry Francona and Mike Scioscia, had a little game of chess last night.
Here are 10 observations as the Boston Red Sox arrived in Anaheim, up 2-0, and an overwhelming favorite to come home Tuesday [...]
