This is not an easy series to pick.
You just don’t know how good the Colorado Rockies really are other than being the hottest playoff team in history.
I do know this. They are loaded with youth and they can hit. Josh Beckett, tonight’s starter, was right. They are like an American League lineup.
Here’s what I see happening.
The Red Sox win tonight, with Beckett winning a very close game, say 4-2.
Game 2 is the key game for Colorado. But I believe Curt Schilling has two more left in him (this and Game 6). The Rockies put up Ubaldo Jiminez, who is decent (he allowed more than 3 run only three times in 15 starts). But Schilling will stay, even, at worst, and the Sox bats would probably take over from there.
The three games in Colorado are wide open. And other than Game 5, I’d favor the Rockies. This is where their momentum will pick up. But Beckett gets it back here with a 3-2 lead and it will be over.
The 2007 Red Sox are good to very good team. They are not a great team. They are a level below where they were in 2004, when they had four very good starters. If they were as good, I might predict a sweep. But the holes in the lineup will cost them at least a game in Colorado.
