OK, it’s official. Name that rotation.
This is very interesting. Red Sox manager Terry Francona basically has taken Clay Buchholz out of the mix, by using him very little after his no-hitter on Sept. 1 against the Orioles — 7 2/3 innings, 1 ER, 6H, 8K, 4BB.
That being said, here is what mine would be:
1. Josh Beckett: The only “very” obvious choice. He’s probably the best No. 1 guy in all of baseball right now, with … continued »

We’ll get back to the Red Sox in a little while, I just don’t get the charges that are coming from the local District Attorney in Sussex, Va.
Michael Vick made a plea agreement on federal charges — conspiracy and involvement with dog fighting enterprise. He will serve 18 months.
The reason the sentence is relatively low, as some people expected 3 to 5 years, was he made a deal. He will help investigators bring down other … continued »

This is a tricky question for the Red Sox.
What should they do?
1. Try and win the division, and by that I mean really, really try to win out and clinch the American League East title and probable best record throughout the A.L. playoffs.

Josh Beckett deserves kudos. He really does.
He has been a guy with “ace” stuff his entire career, which has included a World Series MVP trophy, yet he has never fit the bill. Until now.
The Red Sox were stumbling and bumbling. Some of it their fault (bad games) and some not their fault (injuries). But those are excuses. Aces are supposed to deliver and that’s just what Beckett has done the last week.
His performance against the … continued »

Lost in the Red Sox disappointing sweep in Toronto, even worse than Jonathan Papelbon allowing the first grand slam of his early career in the eighth inning, was Julio Lugo not hustling to first base on his inning-ending grounder to short stop.
Thinking it was a routine play, twice he slowed down for an instant, before realizing it was mishandled by Blue Jays shortstop Ray Olmedo. Instead, Olmedo was able to scoop the ball up on … continued »

There are 10 games left, including the one going on right now between the Sox and Blue Jays and all of sudden the best team in baseball can’t win.
You know what’s even worse about the losing. The Red Sox have been getting, good to very good starting pitching, yet still losing.
That comes down to a weak offense, which is again baring its ugly head and the bullpen.
Eric Gagne, laugh about this or not, might be … continued »
