It was a good weekend for the Red Sox. They won three straight against the White Sox, who are struggling, but the important thing is they looked good doing it, especially on offense.
Here are five things I got from the weekend series with the White Sox:
1. Forget about the Yankees is a good thing.
The Yankees, as I believe was learned this weekend, have nothing to do with these Red Sox. If the Red Sox do “their” thing, … continued »

The New York Yankees are now seven games out, six in the loss column.
The Red Sox haven’t had a clutch hit since … does anybody remember when?
Are you concerned? I mean really concerned?
If you are, what would you do to changes things up?
I am open to all suggestions.

I was talking to Red Sox infielder Alex Cora before yesterday’s game about first base coach Luis Alicea, who I believe has major league manager written all over him (story in today’s ET Publishing newspapers).
Before Cora gave me some info on his confidant, he wanted me to know Alicea wasn’t alone.

Kason Gabbard throws a complete game and might be the new No. 5 starter.
Dustin Pedroia looks like an All-Star.
David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez look like the old David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.

If not for umpire Greg … continued »

Red Sox starter Curt Schilling appears to be ready for the standard rehab assignment in either Lowell, Portland or Pawtucket.
Schilling threw 31 pitches during a simulated game here at Fenway Park about 3-plus hours before game time against the Kansas City Royals.
He ended the 15-minute session by striking out Wily Mo Pena on a fastball that was over Pena’s head. Of course, there was razzing.
Sox manager Terry Francona, who is about to start his daily … continued »

I realize this is not the goal, more of a short-term solution while J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo find themselves, but is it the right move, even in the short term?
Drew is the No. 5 hitter or bust.
The Red Sox can not afford to have Lugo and Coco Crisp, singles’ hitters, in the back of the lineup. I understand why Terry Francona is probably doing this, with Theo Epstein’s blessing of course, to get Drew … continued »
