Red Sox starter Curt Schilling appears to be ready for the standard rehab assignment in either Lowell, Portland or Pawtucket.
Schilling threw 31 pitches during a simulated game here at Fenway Park about 3-plus hours before game time against the Kansas City Royals.
He ended the 15-minute session by striking out Wily Mo Pena on a fastball that was over Pena’s head. Of course, there was razzing.
Sox manager Terry Francona, who is about to start his daily pre-game press conference, looked like a kid in a candy store after watching from behind the mound.
Schilling walked a batter, too, as well as inducing a double-play grounder to first from Eric Hinske.
News on his next move — where and when a rehab start will occur - will be forthcoming later. Stay tuned.
