I'd give up Hansen, Bowden and Bard for Cabrera (and throw in Murphy). And he is Arb elligible, but with his numbers his first year arb number could be close to $10 mil, which goes against FL's "philosophy" unless they can get the taxpayers to float them a new stadium. If there is any truth to this rumor, the Sox should jump at it. Cabrera is a 23 year old Manny, productionwise, anmd they could lock him up for several years.

Why the hell would Florida trade away a franchise player - one of the 5 best players in all of baseball - for:

~ a 7th-8th inning bullpen guy
~ a 28-year old career minor leaguer
~ and two marginal OF prospects?

Even if you add in Lester, Bowden or Buchholz, it's still not enough. It doesn't matter that they're trading five players for one. They're not giving up enough in value, not even close. Any trade for Cabrera (who, as far as I know, is still arbitration-eligible for a few more years) would have to include probably least three of Lester, Hansen, Cox, Bowden, Buchholz and Bard.

I don't know if I'm in the minority here but I don't think this has a snowball's chance in hell of happening. Your "reliable source" seems to be grasping for straws, but I could be wrong.

Rob can you ask about trade rumblings I heard from a fairly reliable source. The trade would be a whopper if it happened. Basically I heard from a buddy who works at the "3rd team" that the Sox (we'll call them the 1st team) had approached the Marlins (defacto 2nd team) about Miguel Cabrera. Sox apparently offered a package that included DelCarmen, Hansack, Murphy and Moss. Marls apparently wanted Buchholtz or Lester instead of Hansack. Sox countered by taking back Hansack and offering Bowden and agreed to throw in Hansen as well (so it would be a 5-1 deal). But they were also looking for a 3rd team to move Lowell to in the process (enter my buddy). This seems pretty early for this kind of stuff but stranger things have happened. Have you heard anything about this? Thanks.

I know it's early, but I live by the saying 'behavior is true'. Coco has been well-below average (I'm trying not to be mean) since he signed. How patient do you think the Sox will be with him, especially with Wily Mo, Moss, Murphy, Ellsbury and the recently acquired Cory Keylor from Baltimore. I know they're young, haven't proved anything at the majors, blah, blah, but I think any of them can hit .118 like Crisp is right now, and look just as horrible at the plate as Crisp is.
What do you think?

Could you find out more about what happened at the Texas series opener? Why was everyone hacking away at the first pitch and not being patient hitters. Perhaps that was the strategy going into the game but I thought that around the 4th/5th inning, they might abandon that approach and be more patient.

Rob,

It seems we've heard very little about new hitting coach Dave Magadan. While it is obviously early in the season, today's pathetic offensive showing against TEX, and in particular Papi's troubles these past games, have me wondering how well the players are settling in with Magadan and particularly without Ron Jackson. I recall that Ortiz was particularly close to Papa Jack.

Any info on Magadan's influence so far, or on players' opinions of him? John Farrell has been front and center since February, but there's been very little exposure of the hitting coach.
