Who wants to see an albiino raccoon?
Feb 23rd, 2007 by Rob Bradford
Driving the minor league complex this morning to catch some interviews before the players head to the links for their annual charity golf tournament and the Metro’s Joe Haggerty pointed out a tempting option for the afternoon … the local planetarium was advertising the chance to see venomous snakes and an albino raccoon. It begged the question: Don’t you think you could draw in a few more people if you just dropped the “venomous” out of the description?
Not much happening this morning, although Terry Francona is slated to disclose his spring training pitching schedule for the first round of games later today. Witnessed an interesting routine David Ortiz does in getting his brand-new bats ready for action, and was intrigued by the fact that all new players were summoned to the nearby trailer to get their photo taken … for all MLB-sponsored video games.
Also, in the never-ending quest for information regarding all things fitness-related, the chips on the shoes that Dave Page handed out yesterday are actually a bit more complex than previously thought. Basically the device (which is developed thanks in part to Doug Flute’s brother, Billy) stores the all the information from the workout (calories, paces, miles) and automatically downloads it into a computer once they come within 100 feet of the terminal. Judging by yesterday, a typical batting practice/fielding workout burned between 400-500 calories.
Will be back around 10 to answer some questions. Do want to pass on, if you didn’t know already, NESN will be broadcasting the first few innings of the Red Sox’s game against Boston College at 6 p.m. It will basically encompass the televising of Daisuke Matsuzaka’s first start, and then switch to college hockey.
Talk soon …

If you run into Del “Dog Man” Christman (Spinners Club House Manager), get an interview with that guy! I got a chance to speak with him at one of his Grandson’s basketball games up in southern NH. He has some great stories about the Major leaguers that go down while rehabbing and the Red Sox organization as a whole.

Well…what is it? Don’t be a tease. “I saw something cool today, but I’m not telling you what!”
Seriously, though, thanks for blogging this, you’re getting us through the winter, we check in all day long.

Ditto!
What the heck does Papi do to his bats?
Does he anoint them with incense ala Pedro Serano?
Does he shave the handles down like Teddy Ballgame?
Rob, please give us a break . . . Don’t leave us hanging!
