George W. Bush won’t go down as one of the great American presidents, and he wasn’t exactly a formidable candidate either.
So how did he win in 2000 and 2004? Well, he had a little help from the Supreme Court the first time around, but in both elections the Democrats put up candidates | Al Gore and John Kerry | who engendered even less enthusiasm than the GOP standard-bearer.
Here we are in 2008 and this time Democrats seem intent on propelling John McCain into the presidency.
The bickering between the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton camps has become downright annoying, and according to the polls a growing number of voters are getting fed up with the both of them.
A longtime North Shore Democrat who’s served in both state and local office told us the other day McCain is looking more and more like the sage high-school principal while Obama and Clinton play the role of bratty teens.

I don't know who that North Shore Democrat was, but there is nothing "sage" about John McCain.
His recent comments linking al Qaeda ( a Sunni extremist group) with the Iranian government ( a Shiite entity) reveal that McCain, despite his long history of service to the nation, is as ignorant of the realities we face in the Persian Gulf as our soon to be departing bonny Prince George.
Does the nation really want four more years, both domestically and internationally, of the policies that the neo-con Bushies rammed down our throats in the aftermath of 9-11?

Kerry needs to be booted Bush had so much thrown at him. A lot of the economic pressures were because greenspan just said screw this im going to keep cutting and keeping pressure on the consumer while kerry and cohorts drove up the cost of gas by taxing it to oblivion.

Only fault I find with your article, Mr Benton, is the comment about Bush getting help from the Supreme Court in 2000. The only thing the Supreme Court did was put a halt to a blatent thievery attempt to steal that election. The democrats had more recounts than Carter has little pills. If not for the Supreme Court, we might still have been recounting in time for the 2004 election
  • Democrat Party has been hijacked. Moderate Democrats, who agree more with traditional Democrat values than Republican value are tempted to cut the nose to spite the face. The cavalier attitute of our elitist Democrat candidates, who have the gift for gab - and then spend all their time in partisan fights and going against the wishes of the majority of those who elected them is pushing moderate Democrats to want to punish these failures. This runs from top to bottom.

Our Democrat U.S. Senators and Congressmen are suppose to represent the voters. Instead, they ignore us and do their own thing. Kerry and Tierney are more interested in involving themselves in international affairs, and have done little or nothing about rescuing our economy from hemoraging its best and brightest young graduates and workers to the South and West. Kennedy and Kerry seems more interested in illegal aliens' rights, getting H1B and H2B visas so our high tech and tourist industries, can get cheap foreign labor who will not complain, and can be exploited by greedy employers - who claim there are no locally qualified workers available.

Instead of getting a Blue Line Extension, Senator McGee is building his Boston-Lynnway ferry, claiming it will be a success because of the Boston-Salem ferry. He ignores the Salem ferry has the House of Seven Gables and the Derby Street Historical District right next to the Salem Ferry dock. The Lynn ferry will dock next to the Lynnway! Now McGee got a grant to train employees for the State's largest bank, still headquarter in the Baystate. Bush is the guy who bails our banks. Democrats help the common people.

Patrick seems to be already planning to dump his failed governorship, write a book, and traveling to China and Silicon Valley - in preperation for a cabinet job in an Obama Presidency? Patrick jobs program first consisted of Casino jobs for our youth. How many parents educated their kids to work in casinos? Now, he is going to issue more bonds to repair bridges. Nothing wrong with repairing bridges, but we already are near the top of States that borrow money. Haven't any Democrats, besides Speaker DiMasi, ever heard of Austerity when the economy is plunging into recession, and State revenues are plunging too.

Anyone reading the Salem News, knows we are being scamned by State politicians and State workers with huge salaries, benefits, and pensions. Normal people working in the private sector are just trying to survive. Yet State hacks have not had to take civil service exams for most State jobs since the Weld Administration. These jobs go to connected State hacks - who often bully and ignore the poor citizens trying to get State services that are their legal right. The Salem News should invited readers to post their own horror stories about dealing with State agencies. Just walk into their offices and see goof-offs abound. Although, now they probably goof-off at their computers instead of at the water cooler. Some, if not many, of your local State Representative and State Senators ignore many of these poor souls' complaints. These poor people have no pull, and simply give up.

This is what happens from having one party, overwhelmingly control our Commonwealth. The only way to give them a message is to vote for the opposition. At least they will not spend as much money. Of course, the Democrats will not cut pay, benefits, or pensions, but they will have to do layoffs of all their friends in the State hack civil service, if they cannot raise taxes or borrow money. And the politicans will probably cut services that will punish the populace for refusing to give them what they want - more spending money. However, unless the Democrat politicians stop ignoring the will of the voters, they must be punished. The money well is empty, and the State economy is very sick with no hope of relief. Let them punish us in cutting back some services, at least we will punish them too - in their non-stop wasteful spending. There is plenty of real fat and waste to cut in the State budget, if they really wanted to do an honest job of being frugal with our money.
