Sen. Hillary Clinton doesn’t believe in the politics of personal destruction?
Gag me with a joint. She wrote the book on it - on how to do it and not look like you’re doing it.
With Sen. Barack Obama closing, or even leading, as the endless campaigning mercifully closes in on the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, Bill Shaheen, husband of former New Hampshire governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen, suddenly found it necessary once again to raise the issue of Obama’s past drug use. But, see, this is not really a personal attack on Obama. It’s just, you know, a warning of what those dirty, dirty Republicans will do if Obama becomes the nominee.
Quoting those imaginary Republicans, Shaheen says, “It’ll be, ‘When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’ There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It’s hard to overcome.”
Ah, yes. Not only will those Republican dirty tricksters be asking about his drug use. They’ll be suggesting he was a dealer as well. And they’re using Bill Shaheen’s mouth to say it. They’re both dirty and smart.
Mrs. Clinton has since disavowed those statements and apologized to Obama. Of course, Obama might well wonder, if her national campaign co-chairmen doesn’t speak for her, who does?
And, of course, apology or not, the drug dirt on Obama is all out there once again, without Hillary’s fingerprints on it. How convenient. How destructive.
And how sad that a lot of people will fall for it.
