Nice to hear Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards calling for Americans to give up their SUVs.
But somewhat surprising to hear that he made that exhortation in front of a “labor group.” Surely that labor group would not have been the United Auto Workers, I thought. Sure enough, it wasn’t.
I’m ready to heed the call. Actually, I don’t have to heed the call. I don’t have an SUV to give up. Never had one. And I was sooo disillusioned to see so many video clips of Edwards himself hopping out of gigantic SUVs, smiling broadly, both thumbs up as he greeted adoring supporters. How can he be smiling when he’s destroying the planet?
But, I’m sure if he’s elected, it’ll all be different. I’m waiting for some news anchor to report, “The presidential motorcade of Priuses arrived at the White House today …”
Nah, probably not.
