The Democratic candidates in the race for Marty Meehan’s seat in Congress have shared the stage so often, any one of them could probably recite another’s stock lines.
That’s not the case over on the Republican side where Tom Tierney has appeared a half-dozen times with the Democrats but, according to him, has yet to meet his opponent in the Sept. 4 primary, Jim Ogonowski.
According to Tierney:
We’re the biggest race in the country for the rest of the year. Heck, we’re the only race in the country.
And yet there have been no one-on-one debates between the two.
Tierney said today he’d just been told Channel 5 was trying to set up a joint appearance later this month. We’ll see.
While many view Ogonowski as the front-runner, Tierney isn’t conceding anything and says their contest is one with national implications, pitting a “Bush loyalist” — Ogonowski — against someone (him) who wants to see the U.S. go in a new direction in Iraq.
