~ Former Salem High (N.H.) star Terry Doyle will pitch Saturday vs. Baltimore. Other Red Sox hurlers scheduled to pitch that day are LHP Felix Doubront, RHP Joel Hanrahan, LHP Andrew Miller and RHP Andrew Bailey.
~ Reliever Daniel Bard was scratched from last Friday’s game to work on his mechanics. We will see if that helped when he takes the mound today. He threw 18 pitches over 1.0 inning in a simulated game Monday.
~ Dylan Bundy, 20, will pitch against the Red Sox the Red Sox on Saturday when Boston and Baltimore meet. Bundy recently was ranked the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America. Texas shortstop Jurickson Profar, 20, was ranked No. 1.
~ Sox right fielder Shane Victorino went 2 for 2 with a stolen base in Team USA’s 8-7 loss in a WBC exhibition yesterday against Colorado.
~ Red Sox top prospect Xander Bogaerts started at third base in each of the Netherlands’ three WBC opening-round contests in Taiwan. He went 1 for 8 with one run, one double, and two walks in three games. The Netherlands begin second-round play vs. Cuba today at 10 p.m., eastern time in Tokyo.
~ Today’s Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz made his first spring training start Saturday going 1.1 innings with two strikeouts against Minnesota. He tossed 40 pitches in a simulated game Feb. 26 and threw 37 pitches over 2.0 innings in a simulated game Feb. 23.
~ Allen Webster also pitches today. He threw 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk while striking out two Saturday against the Twins. He struck out four straight batters over 2.0 innings in his first Grapefruit League appearance Feb. 25 against Toronto.
