Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley is sixth all-time in career saves with 390.

Mariano Rivera has the most career saves (603), followed by Trevor Hoffman (601), Lee Smith (478), John Franco (424) and Billy Wagner (422).

You have to wonder how many more Eckersley would have had if he did not also start 361 games during his career.

Eckersley primarily was a starter for the first 12 years of his career.

He finished his 24-year career with 191 wins, a 3.50 ERA and 1.161 WHIP.

He led the AL with 45 saves in 1988 and 51 saves in 1992, the year he was both the AL Cy Young and MVP.
