A few reports have said right-handed starter Roy Oswalt is not that interested in Boston and would prefer to pitch for either Texas or St. Louis.
Oswalt, 34, went 9-12 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts for the Phillies last year. He is 159-93 with a 3.21 ERA in 11 seasons.
The Red Sox also are talking with the White Sox about right-handed starter Gavin Floyd who will turn 29 on Jan. 27 and went 12-13 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.162 WHIP in 31 games, including 30 starts last season.
Floyd is 58-55 with a 4.50 ERA during his career. He was selected fourth overall by the Phillies in the 2001 amateur draft.
The Sox also reportedly have made an offer to right-hander Edwin Jackson.
The 28-year-old Jackson went 12-9 with a 3.79 ERA in 32 games, 31 starts, last season for both the White Sox and Cardinals. He is 60-60 is in his nine-year career with a 4.46 ERA.
