On Dec. 6, 1976, the Red Sox traded Cecil Cooper to the Milwaukee Brewers for Bernie Carbo and George Scott.

Cooper hit 40 homers and batted .283 in six seasons, 406 games, with Boston.

After leaving Boston, he became one of the better hitters in the American League. He went on to hit 201 homers and bat .302 in 11 seasons, 1,490, games for the Milwaukee Brewers.

He finished his career with 2,192 hits — 1,815 of which he stroked with the Brewers.

Cooper led the AL with 44 doubles in 1979 and 35 doubles in 1981.

He led the AL with 122 RBIs in 1980 and 126 RBIs in 1983.

And he was named to five American League All-Star teams from 1979 through 1985.
